Are celebrant weddings legal?
No, not yet!
• For a marriage to be recognised in law in England & Wales, a legally binding ceremony, most commonly known as a registration of marriage, MUST take place.
• This will normally occur at a Register Office.
• (The same applies to a Civil Partnership registration.)
• The ceremony can be very short and basic with no exchange of rings, vows, or other ritual if you don’t want it to.
• Once completed you have the choice of where, how and when you enjoy your celebrant ceremony.
A registration currently costs £35 p.p. for your notices and about £49 for the room hire at a register office. Add on the cost of your marriage schedule and you can legally be married for less than £130. Register Offices have to offer basic services, so do ask about them if they are not listed on your Register Office’s website.

How Much Does a Ceremony Cost?
That depends on what you want. Here are my current prices for popular celebrations. If yours is not listed here, do contact me to discuss your ideas.
Initial, No Obligation Consultation: Free via Zoom
Weddings and Renewal of Vows:
Ceremony only: £800
This includes as many online/in-person meetings as needed. I will provide you with a questionnaire and will combine your answers with the information from our meetings to write your bespoke ceremony. You will have the opportunity to edit the script if you wish to do so. We will have a rehearsal, if possible, to include all the key players at the event. We don’t want nerves to spoil the day! I will liaise with your venue, your photographer and any other key service providers and will arrive ahead of the event to oversee that all is well before you arrive. You will have a digital copy of the script sent to you after the day so that you have a keepsake forever.
Ceremony and Vow Writing Workshop: £900
All of the above but with the addition of an online workshop designed to help you write your vows to each other at the ceremony. If you are not sure what to say or how to say it, this is the option for you!
Ceremony, Vow Writing Workshop and Mistress of Ceremonies: £1200
All of the above but I stay on and become your MC up until your first dance. From ensuring everyone is actually in the group wedding shot, to announcing you and introducing the big speeches at your Wedding Breakfast, I will make sure that all is well before leaving you to enjoy your party.
Divorces: £800
If you want to celebrate your freedom, this is the one for you! As with weddings and vow renewals, this includes as many online/in-person meetings as needed. I will provide you with a questionnaire and will combine your answers with the information from our meetings to write your bespoke ceremony. You will have the opportunity to edit the script if you wish to do so. We will have a rehearsal, if possible, to include all the key players at the event. I will liaise with your venue, your photographer and any other key service providers and will arrive ahead of the event to oversee that all is well before you arrive. You will have a digital copy of the script sent to you after the day so that you have a keepsake forever.
Baby/Pet Naming: £300 This includes as many online/in-person meetings as needed. I will provide you with a questionnaire and will combine your answers with the information from our meetings to write your bespoke ceremony. You will have the opportunity to edit the script if you wish to do so. We will have a rehearsal, if possible. Depending on the venue (it may be your back garden, for example), I will liaise with staff and/or service providers, such as the photographer. You will have a digital copy of the script sent to you after the day so that you have a keepsake forever.
House/Boat/Ship/Company Naming: From £500, depending on what you wish to do. Let’s have a conversation!
Birthdays: From £400, depending on what you would like to do. A ‘This is Your Life’ style ceremony with gift presentations is popular but you might have other ideas! Let’s talk!
Travelling and Other Expenses
If our meeting place and your venue are within twenty miles of my home in Waterlooville, Hampshire, there will be no extra travelling charges. Outside of this circle, I charge the standard HMRC mileage rate of 45p per mile.
I am happy to travel both nationally and internationally but would expect you to pay for train/air/ferry fares as appropriate. If an overnight stay is needed, this would also be paid for by you.
I am happy to conduct ceremonies in woods and castles, on beaches or boats, at venues that do not have a wedding licence or in private homes. Just ensure that the (land)owner has given permission for you to hold your ceremony there!
